In this internship, my skills as a professional were honed. Each day having a new spin in some fashion, I found myself adapting to scenarios which I had never been exposed to before. This has certainly built my confidence in my own capabilities and knowledge; also my ability to recognize and utilize transferable skills has increased. Meeting folks from various levels of our city's government was incredibly insightful, building a few connections and relationships along the way. I definitely felt and seen the impact not only from my own efforts, but from the efforts the department, partners, and community.The DC ReEngagement Center is a centralized District service through which out-of-school youth between the ages of 16- and 24 year-olds can reconnect to educational options and other critical services to support their attainment of a high school diploma or equivalency.

With this non profit organization, I started out as an intern and as the opportunities arose I became the Help Desk Manager and joined the Project Management Team. Certainly my technical abilities were put to the test each day, no two days were ever alike. There was heavy emphasis on time management and multi-tasking, not to mention wearing, multiple hats and using your strengths and capacity to keep the machine running. Did I mention that we were internally a very small team sometimes no more than 3 - 4 people in the beginning. For some context we were contracted by DACL the Department of Aging and Community Living to run the Senior iPad Program; with the aim to close the digital divide. Which involved Cold Calls, Intakes, Delivery, Multiple Training sessions, and Help Desk which was just the start. We initially started out supporting 300 which grew to 500, then 1000.For the staff or contractors I'd regularly update cheat sheet (best practices) documentation, keeping our workflow smooth in the sometimes uncertain waters. Of course staff input was invaluable, I never took an "I know it all" stance; any opportunity to learn something new is treasured. Just that healthy communication with staff and my prior experiences proved consistently valuable into forecasting, and becoming aware of new trends.
