Admissions RecruiterEsteem Graduate Program At The University Of Notre Dame Oct 2019 - Aug 2024South Bend, IndianaAs the admissions recruiter, my primary responsibility was to oversee the recruiting and admissions process for the ESTEEM Graduate Program. On the recruiting front, the goal was to develop and implement strategies to identify top-quality STEM and tech savvy students and young professionals to join ESTEEM. During my time in the program, I managed the recruiting cycle from start to finish. This included helping prospective students find out about ESTEEM, educating them about the experiences they will have during the program (e.g. capstone project work, mentorship opportunities with entrepreneurs, visits to local startups, funding for their ventures), placement possibilities post-graduation, helping them through the application process, and working through the confirmation process once an offer was made. In addition, I led the ESTEEM admissions process, helping prospective students successfully complete their applications, answering questions about the program and admissions process, evaluating applications, and making admissions recommendations during committee meetings. -
Graduate Student ResearcherUniversity Of Wisconsin-Madison Aug 2016 - Jun 2019Madison, WiAs a graduate student researcher, I developed a master's thesis project that examines how parents and children from different cultural groups talk and think about the cause of the upper respiratory illnesses. This entailed close interactions with parents and their children particularly through interviews. I also developed questionnaires and other assessments to measure health beliefs for this study. In leading this project, I coordinated weekly meetings with undergraduate students and provided them with weekly assignments in order to ensure steady progress. In addition, I also participated in other projects in close collaboration with faculty members, other graduate students, and undergraduates. In particular, I managed and led coding meetings with undergraduates and other collaborators. During my time in this position, I was also a teaching assistant which required the development of lesson plans in close collaboration with other teaching assistants. I also guest lectured in an undergraduate research methods psychology course. This strengthened both my public speaking and overall teaching skills. Lastly, I have extensive experience crafting educational presentations, which are carefully prepared for a broad range of audiences. -
Research Study AssistantNorthwestern University, Feinberg School Of Medicine Jul 2014 - Jul 2016Chicago, IlDuring this time, I was part of a collaborative research team working on a longitudinal study that aimed to map out both typical and disruptive child behavior. As part of the team, I interviewed and interacted with families from diverse racial/ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Oftentimes, the interviews dealt with sensitive topics and issues, including mental and physical health. Therefore, I helped put together a list of community resources for families interested in receiving specific types of support. I also played a role in crafting surveys and questionnaires for families to take. This project also demanded careful attention to detail in order to maintain information in databases. Additionally, I took an active role in the development of a qualitative observational coding scheme. This involved collaborating and meeting with a large team of individuals. As part of this project I was also in charge of hiring and overseeing the weekly coding tasks of two team members. Finally, I coordinated with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) to ensure that the study was compliant with current ethic standards in research. This required in-depth knowledge about these standards as well as consistent communication with IRB representatives. -
Research AssistantNorthwestern University'S Cognitive Development Lab Jun 2011 - Jun 2014Evanston, IlAs an undergraduate research assistant, I worked on the design and management of two distinct projects, including a senior thesis. The topics of both projects were centered around parents' and children's health beliefs and behaviors. While working on these projects, I recruited, scheduled and interviewed parents and children in both English and Spanish. I also translated, transcribed, and coded the parent and child interviews. Lastly, I was involved in the analyzing of both the qualitative and quantitative data.
