This project, titled "Reading as Belonging: Empowering French-Speaking Youth to Reimagine the Future of Library Services" This study examines the link between heritage languages, reading for pleasure and the mechanisms that contribute to sustaining one’s identity and healthy belonging. The main goal of this research is to raise a generation of empowered, engaged Canadians for whom libraries, archives and museums (LAMs) are an integral part of their daily life, who see their heritage languages (and cultures) organically represented in LAMs, and who also understand what it takes to keep these organizations running and relevant to official language minority communities (OLMC) in Canada. The project seeks to engage Francophone youth (both speakers and learners) in reading-related conversations and activities that are crucial and integral to their own growth and identity formation as OLMC members.
