We are a small, family run and operated Horse Stud, located in the suburbs of Western Sydney. Dedicated to preserving, breeding and promoting the beautiful Shire Horse for future generations to come. With less than 200 Shires Australia Wide, and an estimated 2000 Worldwide, the Shire Horse Breed has been placed on the "AT RISK" Register with the Rare Breeds Trust.Due to our love of the Shire breed, we recently added Drum Horses to our Stud with the purchase of a beautiful F1 Drum Filly in 2009 named "Featherdale Moondreamer" and have since gone onto breed our own F1 Drum Colt "Excalibur Park Apollo" in 2011.The Drum horse is said to be very similar to the original Coloured Shires of the past, and therefore we feel it compliments our Shire breeding, by providing a new breed without compromising the Foundation breeds from which they are derrived.Drum horses are a type of horse known for their role in carrying heavy kettle drums for marching bands, however today see's this type of horse being developed into a new heavy ridden breed by the careful crossing of three foundation breeds, the Gypsy Cob, Shire and Clydesdale.The resulting foals are given "F" Generation status depending on the percentage of Gypsy Cob contained within their bloodlines. i.e.F1 Drum - has 50% Gypsy Cob F2 Drum - has 25-49% Gypsy CobF3 Drum - has under 25% Gypsy CobAs the Drum Horse is developed there will eventually be no need to include any of the Foundation breeds, however, this will not be for many years. First we have to develop the Type and have this be able to reproduce itself time and time again, before we can say we have arrived at a Breed, The Drum Horse.The International Drum Horse Association is the World's only Drum Horse Stud Book dedicated to these rare and magnificent horses.
