I managed sections which provided secretariat services to high-level taskforces working on Indigenous Affairs and which had responsibility for developing policy on various aspects of Indigenous Affairs.

I led a small team; investigated complex complaints about Centrelink, the Child Support Agency and associated policy Departments; and provided guidance to investigation officers about complaints.

As an Assistant Director, my work was focussed on various aspects of children’s policy with particular emphases on international issues and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. While acting as a Director, I managed a section which was responsible for policies about children at risk and in foster care; programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, their parents and carers; and the Secretariat for the Australian Council for Children and Parenting.

I worked on debt prevention and recovery for social security payments; implementation and ongoing administration of Child Care Benefit and other issues in early childhood policy; housing policy; employment strategies for people with disabilities; administration and policy about family payments and child support; and management of programs for Indigenous families and children.

From 1997 to 1999, while studying full-time, I also worked part-time as a lecturer (in the French Program at the Australian National University) and as a customer service volunteer (at the then Community Information and Referral Service of the ACT).

Various administrative positions in the private sector (receptionist and office manager at Canberra National Coachlines and at Elders Real Estate, Surry Hills) and the public sector (in positions ranging from Trainee ASO1 to Acting ASO4 in the Department of Employment, Education and Training, the Insurance and Superannuation Commission, Comsuper and the Attorney-General’s Department).
