I served as a per diem anesthesiologist for general surgery, I also supervised and taught residents and nurse anesthetists.

For this position, I provided clinical anesthesia for adult patients with heart disease, supervised and taught residents, and mentored fellows and junior faculty, one of whom became Associate Dean at Stanford.

In this role, I provided anesthesia for pediatric patients with congenital heart disease, taught and supervised residents in cardiac anesthesia and transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), and mentored fellows and junior faculty in anesthesia, pediatric cardiology, and intensive care, accumulating 1,400 teaching and 300 mentoring hours annually. Additionally, I served as chief of cardiac anesthesia and director of adult and pediatric cardiac anesthesia at UCSF’s Moffitt-Long Hospital and as director of UCSF’s adult and pediatric cardiac anesthesia fellowships and resident rotations.I was invited as a visiting professor at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University’s St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital, and the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center and performed research on the role of TEE in cardiac patients (adults and children) and the safety and efficacy of anesthetic agents in patients with heart disease. In addition, I published 49 articles in peer-reviewed journals and co-edited a comprehensive textbook on anesthesia for congenital heart disease. Holding a joint appointment in the surgery department for 5 years, I also served on ~50 university committees and reviewed 3-4 journal abstracts per month.Key Contributions:►Secured $1.5M funding and achieved buy-in for the UCSF Center for Applied 3D Technologies (3D printing and AI).►Played a key role in advancing the anesthesiology program to national distinction and grew the lung transplant program to the third largest in the U.S. ►Achieved acceptance for interoperative TEE as a real-time monitor in cardiac surgery.►Collaborated with Hewlett-Packard to develop the pediatric TEE probe.►Significantly improved cardiac anesthesia training.►Grew the cardiac anesthesia faculty to meet new workload demands.►Received the Edward A. Dickson Professor Emeritus, Distinguished Women Faculty, and Exceptional Physician Awards and additional honors for clinical teaching and excellence.
