Roma Civil Monitor is a pilot project with the full title of 'Capacity building for Roma civil society and strengthening its involvement in the monitoring of national Roma integration strategies’.To help the authors of a synthesis report, I contributed to compiling data for the chapters on housing.The objective of the pilot project was to contribute to strengthening the monitoring mechanisms of the implementation of the national Roma integration strategies through systematic civil society monitoring. The additional value of civil society monitoring comes from the independent status and the field experience of participating NGOs. The pilot project aimed to enhance civil society monitoring in two key ways: by developing the policy monitoring capacities of civil society actors and by supporting the preparation of high-quality, comprehensive annual civil society monitoring reports. The project was implemented with active participation of approximately 90 NGOs from 27 member states (Malta was not part of the pilot project as there is no Roma community). We prepared a synthesis report that summarized country reports on the National Roma inclusion policies in all 27 countries.

Metropolitan Congregations United (MCU) is an affiliate of Gamaliel National Network, a network that empowers ordinary people to effectively participate in the political, environmental, social and economic decisions affecting our lives. MCU is an interfaith organization located in St. Louis that puts faith into action by developing leaders who move their congregations, organizations and communities to change public policy for the common good. As Crew Lead, I organize people like you and me from various congregations into teams. Once assembled, teams are to create voter hubs within their congregation. "Voter Hubs" may act to provide education resources, voter precincts or whatever voter engagement roles they choose. Crew Lead entails sound communication, flexibility and motivation. As a member of the team, I aimed to contribute my project management and fundraising experience to motivate and encourage interactive voter engagement within our communities. Through team building, canvasing, phone banking and other methodologies, my goal was to build well-informed sustainable voter engagement in the St. Louis City area.

The assignment of a Health Education Volunteer requires volunteers to work in a structured school environment while developing, health education curricula, health education lesson plans and co-teaching nine formal Health Education classes per week in Romanian, with two Moldovan teachers. Through collaboration with the school psychologist, school nurse, home room teachers, and school administrators, volunteers contribute to the improvement of the school curriculum, as well as school facilities. Health Education volunteers assess community health and education resources to assist improve school and community health education activities through collaboration with community professionals such as: community medical staff, social worker(s), health focused NGO members, youth leaders and community leaders.

As an in-class educator, I taught Health education in Romanian. I also promoted peer-to-peer Health education and life skills for youth (through seminars, campaigns, monologues, clubs and public announcements). By developing positive working relations with the administration and school staff, we improved the quality of health at Cruglic. I held health campaigns and initiated small health projects. I was also exposed to various opportunities such as youth empowerment, community assessment, project management, grant writing, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation, networking, community development and increasing infrastructure.
