I’ve applied my curiosity and creator mindset to solving seemingly intractable problems, bringing concepts to life and evolving ideas that exist but aren’t efficient. Most recently, this has been unpicking the UK’s accessible housing crisis, where I’ve worked to break through resistance in the housing sector. One of my key initiatives, The Accessible Letting Scheme, tackled inequalities in the property search process. By creating pragmatic solutions for estate and letting agents, I engaged commercial and public stakeholders who had the power to make change. I use a wheelchair. My personal journey has shaped my professional mission: to foster greater inclusion in sectors where it’s long overdue. I love housing, precisely because housing equates to opportunity: shelter and safety are at the base of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. I also champion, ecological and sustainable design, affordability, as well as universal design. Happily, I’ve built strong relationships, convened knowledge, ideas and champions, and challenged the status quo. We can alleviate suffering, we just need to move from fear to love. I thrive with the fun, expertise and energy of multidisciplinary collaboration, working with others towards a common goal, and seeing the beauty and benefits of diversity, measured in both financial and social outcomes.
