In this position I coordinated with other departments and customers on projects with the aim of improving the reliability, performance, or operation of machines across the eastern region of Australia. Examples of work performed in this position include:• Excavator Frame Cracking: Investigated the cause of frame cracking on a customer fleet of excavators by undertaking a FEA simulation of the frame, engaging with the customer and a consultant to perform strain gauge testing on a machine, and analysing the data obtained in terms of fatigue.• 830E Fuel Saving: Developed an energy based method utilizing GPS data to quantify the fuel savings achieved through modifications to dump trucks. Created a similar analysis method which uses VHMS download data without the need for additional data logging.• Visualisation of Komtrax GPS Data: Prepared an automated Excel template which accepts GPS position data from Komtrax, and outputs the machine travel paths and speeds to Google Earth.• Component Failure Investigations: I have investigated the failures of many components using techniques such as fractography, and an understanding of the operation of the component to determine the cause of failure.

Developed guarding options to reduce the likelihood the failure will reoccur• Designed an electrical system utilising relays to perform as a ladder interlock on a D475• Explored possibilities for implementing an automatic cooling fan reverse function on a WA500. Programmed an Arduino microcontroller to execute the fan control logic
