Sean is a co-founder of Stronghold, a San Francisco-based financial technology company creating virtual payment networks that enable instant settlement and interoperability between legacy and new payment networks. At Stronghold, Sean has focused on leading the development of retail and business payment products utilizing differing payment modes, from banking layer integrations to blockchain technology.Sean has been responsible for some of the first business cross-border transactions of sovereign currency over distributed ledger protocols, including founding the Stellar network’s first ‘stablecoin’ provider, moving USD, AUD and NZD on Ripple and Stellar in 2014 as well as partnering with IBM to launch USD settlement on IBM’s Blockchain World Wire network in 2018. Much of his work has dealt with the regulated movement of funds, and he has had experience as an AML/CFT compliance officer. With interests in healthcare and financial services, his continued focus on technology and compliance has led him from his native New Zealand, through Australia, to the cutting edge in Silicon Valley.

FounderCoinex Gateway 2014 - 2015Seeing the interest of moving traditional currencies atop of blockchain technologies, I created a product to enable my customers to move fiat currency in and out of the Ripple and Stellar distributed ledger technology networks. Major milestones in running this business were my partnerships with Ripple and Stellar, major players in that industry. I was especially proud that, in spite of my remote and isolated location, I had formed strong relationships with Silicon Valley companies.In operating a financial services provider I attended to a wide range of needs, including the development of a cloud-based product to handle taking payment instructions in USD, AUD, NZD, and BTC from clients that interfaced with multiple blockchains and distributed ledger networks.Recognizing the importance of compliance when most in the industry at the time ignored it, I implemented AML/CFT procedures including a KYC/CIP programme and systems to monitor and detect fraud and other suspicious activity. -
Lead Developer (Analytics)Leanstream 2012 - 2014At leanStream, a Canadian company and a major contract during my time as an remote independent contractor, I led the development of a SaaS analytics platform. The online platform provides the company's clients with a business intelligence solution that empowers media executives to make more informed decisions for their radio and on-demand media streaming departments. leanStream works with some of the top media and broadcasting companies in North America, with customers across NA and APAC.The solution required a sophisticated data processing engine and metrics calculator to be built as it has to handle BI queries in real-time involving billions of events over years of user interaction. Constituent technologies include C# .NET, (T)SQL, HTML/CSS/JS/JQuery and charting frameworks with management of a Windows Server + IIS + SQL Server environment. -
