Our mission is to empower youth, adults and Veterans with disabilities to achieve their highest level of independence and employment.U&I, formerly Citizens Development Center, is a non-profit organization annually serving more than 2000 youth, adults and Veterans with an entire spectrum of intellectual, physical, and/or mental health disabilities in DFW and beyond. We fulfill our mission through several life changing programs including: Community Employment Placement, Work Center/Vocational Training, Transition Services/Work Experience, Transportation Assistance, Housing Assistance, Computer Training/Certifications, Fork Lift Training, Job Coaching and much more.Every weekday, close to 200 adults with severe disabilities enrolled in the Work Center/Vocational Training Program come to our 36,000 square foot facility on Ambassador Row to perform packaging, assembly, and other fulfillment work for companies which make products or provide services you have most likely used. In addition to being paid for the work performed, clients participate in social activities, life skills classes, and strive to reach personalized goals every month. Our partners love coming to work because they are included - they have a strong sense of purpose here, develop confidence and are a part of a powerful & diverse team.Our Community Employment Placement Program offers adults with disabilities, who choose to work outside of our work center, intensive support, training, and guidance in order to be hired by local companies and experience job success. U&I's Employment Counselors advocate for clients and empower them with the skills to overcome the many challenges of employment an individual with a disability will face. Thanks to our partnerships with employers seeking candidates at all skill levels, we have placed thousands of clients in jobs successfully.Our Work Experience and Transition Services for youth transitioning out of special education is another vital opportunity. Parents and guardians are consistently looking for resources and next steps for their youth... we are the answer they are looking for- with upskilling, continuing education, work experience and job opportunities.
