My project assesses the role of marine nutrients in elevated atmospheric CO2 conditions in the past and future ocean. My special interests are long-time scale perturbations of the global carbon cycle and oxygen conditions that can lead to massive amounts of organic matter burial in ocean sediments. I focus on modeling the phosphorous and nitrogen cycles, which are important nutrients limiting primary productivity and are considerably affected by changes in oxygen concentration in the water column. Ocean circulation plays an important role in controlling the marine biogeochemistry and it is rather uncertain for the Mesozoic. In this project, we use different tools in order to constrain the ocean circulation during the Cretaceous and the Jurassic periods.

My special interests are perturbations of the global carbon cycle and oxygen conditions that can lead to massive amounts of organic matter burial in ocean sediments. I focus on modeling the phosphorous and nitrogen cycles, which are important nutrients limiting primary productivity and are considerably affected by changes in oxygen concentration in the water column. I focus on the development of widespread anoxia in the proto-North Atlantic, considering a fixed ocean circulation pattern, but a wide range of ocean circulation strength.
