Vice-president of the Space Working Party during the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU• Negotiated the EU Regulation for the Space Programme 2021 – 2027, both within the Council with the EU Member States, and with the European Parliament and the European Commission;• Reached a comprehensive common understanding after two trilogues;• The main topics included Galileo, Copernicus, SSA & Governmental Satellite Communication;• Balanced the interests of the EU member states and used diplomacy to facilitate consensus;• Contributed to the revival of the EU-ESA Space Council after a hiatus of 8 years.

Rocket Propulsion Applications• Headed project teams specializing in infrastructure, legislation and administrative issues, andsoftware development;• Interacted and managed the communication with multiple stakeholders - the Civil Aviation Authority, the Romanian Air Traffic Services Administration, the Military Aviation Authority and the Ministry of Defense;• Validated studies with a sounding rocket flight and with an autonomous high altitude UAV solutiondeployed by sounding balloon.

Flight director in initial project stages of Time Capsule to Mars, a student led CubeSat mission to Mars; MIT lead for Systems Architecture and System level requirements study, later refined during the A-Team workshop at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory; Propulsion lead.

Interaction of microwave radiation with matter, metal vaporization and ionization for applications in Space Propulsion• Studied the interaction of microwave radiation with matter and the vaporization and ionization of metallic wires, by using a 2.45 GHz commercially available magnetron source, 800 W RF power, coupled to a TM (transverse magnetic) resonant cavity;• The ionization of metal vapors was later demonstrated with optical emission spectroscopy, where ions of metal were present in different states of ionization;• Contributed to the project proposal and prepared materials for reports and submission to peer-reviewed journal.

Lunar Science • Performed radar and optical remote sensing research focusing on anomalous craters in the non-polar areas of the Moon – craters that display similar backscattering properties as those in the polar areas that are presumed to conceal ice.

Part of a small team to design, build, test and fly a low-cost simulated satellite platform that recorded a video of a NEO mock-up and downlinked the data. Part of the image processing team.

Part of the Physical Sciences Division of the ACCESS Mars Project at NASA Ames Research Center and the International Space University, sponsored by the NASA Exploration Systems Mission Directorate. The objective was to develop a mission architecture for an initial settlement on Mars by assessing the feasibility of lava tube habitation as an alternative to proposed surface-based solutions.
