2006 – 2008 : Seconded to Metronet in a role of the Engineering Safety Manager for Victoria Line Upgrade Project. Ivan was responsible for delivery of Systems Safety Case and management of System Hazard Log and QRA activities leading a team of 5 safety experts. All the project milestones were supported on time and to the budget.2001-2006: Hazard manager for Route 7 Project (a multi-million pound project introducing Italian computer based signalling system) with responsibilities including development and implementation of processes for safety review, hazard management and systems safety analysis of system changes during the implementation phase of project, hazard identification and hazard log management. All the project milestones were supported in time and to the budget.2005-2006: Identification and formulation of high level System (Safety, RAM and Environmental) requirements, in support of the Technical Assistance for Preparation of the Modernisation of Corridor II – Remaining Works project. The project was aimed at enabling the Government of the Republic of Poland to make strategic decisions and financial commitments regarding the Modernisation of the Corridor II railway link. Successfully introduced the system approach to the project resulting in recovery of the delivery schedule and reclaiming client’s confidence.2002-2004: Developer of the Axle Counter Safety Risk/Benefits model in support of the Axle Counters Concept Safety Case.2004: Identification and analysis of options for performance improvement of the Permanent Speed Restrictions Protected by TPWS.
Risk Assessment Modelling Manager And Risk Analysis Engineer
Leading a team of 5 experts, was responsible for management and maintenance of safety risk models within the Systems Engineering group of West Coast Route Modernisation (WCRM) project. Management and support of the derivation of safety targets, configuration aspects of project documentation, system modelling including data mining and maintenance. Further responsibilities included:• Identification of risk analysis tools and techniques suitable for assessment of safety risks and management, supporting and carrying out adequate research and development projects;• Development and delivery of training programmes to ensure that the Systems Engineering team, delivery groups and other stakeholders are able to appreciate the complex system safety issues and their management;• Management of allocated projects, contractor projects and deliverables to ensure work is carried out at the requisite level of quality and added value. Management of independent consulting firms commissioned as required for commercial and research and development evaluations and projects;• Undertaking/managing an extensive research project aiming to improve the understanding of how trains behave during collisions and derailments and how the forces generated are transferred to the carriage occupants with resulting injuries and mathematical modelling and simulations incorporating the use of Fuzzy Logic technology as a base for the loss estimation process. Three external research organisations were involved in the project.• Project co-ordinator for the ERTMS special safety study (for EU Commission for transport) and for assessment and evaluation of ERTMS operational rules as part of the Harmonisation of European rail Rules for Operating ERTMS (HEROE) project (for EU Commission for transport). Both QRA models were used to set quantified safety targets for key components of the future railway system including West Coast Main Line.
