Youth Services Specialist / Intervention Center Assistant
Santa Barbara, California, United States
From 2015-2020 I worked at La Cumbre Junior High as a Youth Services Specialist and Intervention Center Assistant. I was in charge of my own life skills class called Reconnecting Youth. In this class we focus on academic achievement, mood management and making healthier decisions. The class size was around ten students and was a year long elective class. I also conducted Brief Intervention counseling services which uses motivational interviewing as its main tool to guide discussions with youth about their current drug use. In addition, I ran a school club named Club Live which focused on developing leadership skills and promoted a healthy lifestyle through alternative activities and involvement in our school and community. Lastly, I also facilitated a program named the Substance Use Parent Education Resource also known as S.U.P.E.R Our main objective in this class was to help parents and teens develop a positive family relationship, address substance abuse and improve communication. I also helped create the Lancer Center which was an intervention center focused on addressing the social emotional needs of students. I began collecting data as to which students would come to the Lancer Center, the reason, and what interventions were completed. This data was then used by our administration to create personal development opportunities for teachers in order to improve in class interventions.
