The role also included responsibility for the ICT security policy and is jointly responsible for the Council’s ICT enterprise architecture.

Back in overalls and safety boots, onsite installing communications technology into customers sites was an enjoyable change after all the years behind a desk. Being a practically minded person I really enjoyed working with other trade staff and it was a good feeling to be able to install the physical infrastructure and then to provide ICT services that utilised this infrastructure for the customer. (Most people don't get to see what's behind the plugs and in the walls of their buildings)

Duties included responsibly for directing, co-ordinating and facilitating multiple projects across Infrastructure and Applications within the constraints of scope, quality, time and cost, and to deliver specified requirements and to meet customer satisfaction. Provide a leadership/mentor roll to team leaders with regards to specific technical and architectural challenges. Fulfilling the role of Relationship Manager for all matters relating to the accommodation of the Research and Education Advanced Network point of presence hosted on the Otago campus.This role presents a real challenge as it effectively provides the glue to allow projects to be undertaken between the various technology teams within and external to the department (Such as the Avaya call centre implementation, College of Education Merger, Financial Management Information System hosting and Citrix deployment, Second Data Centre development, Staff Email System and Central PABX upgrade)

Duties include co-ordinating the specification, design, installation, and testing of central systems within the University (Such as HR/Payroll, Central Authentication services, and bulk of the Corporate Systems infrastructure post Y2K). Project leader of the present corporate systems and consolidated SAN storage implementation. This was a large project involving a budget of over $1.4M across a number of different technology areas.
