Life Buoyancy Institute was founded in 2016 to progress the science and applications of intentional practice as a method to build thriving, sustainable and compassionate communities. The institute’s work is supported through a network of teachers, practitioners, youth workers, community service personnel, professionals, researchers and program developers who come together around a common approach founded upon mindful awareness and intentionality.

The research focused on how we can increase the capacity of young people to be "life buoyant" or be resilient in the face of stress and adversity. It included an exploration of the relationship between educational engagement, youth offending and wellbeing for young people at risk of poor life outcomes, as mediated by a young person's motivation to change. This research area is being explored through a systematic evaluation of the Operation Flinders wilderness-adventure program for youth-at-risk.

Operation Flinders is an intenstive wilderness-adventure program for youth-at-risk. I have been a program facilitator since 1999 and a member of the Operation Flinders Clinical Advisory Committee since 2004. In the later role I have undertaken peer reviewed research and evalaution, and provided clinical consultancy on program development and implementation.
