I develop VHDL, C, and Python code for operating safety-critical gas detection equipment. This includes the development of firmware drivers, data interfaces (e.g. SPI, I2C, RS-485), signal processing subroutines, and GUIs. In addition to providing source code, I'm responsible for managing software throughout its life cycle, including requirements development, planning, scheduling, simulation & testing, verification & validation, release, and maintenance. I work with customers to certify that software meets or exceeds its performance requirements. I conduct direct programming of ESD-sensitive hardware, including systems intended for spaceflight. My role as Senior Software Engineer extends to implementing a Software Configuration Management (SCM) system, using a Git framework, across multiple independent contract deliverables.

After concluding my graduate studies, I continued at VPI as a Software Engineer. Beyond my usual duties in code development and design review, the role included writing requirement verification test procedures, implementing processes for software change management, and performing derating analysis of electrical schematics. During this time, I began interacting with space-grade components at a programmatic level, with the goal of verifying and releasing flight-ready software.

I initially joined VPI during my final year as a graduate student at NMSU. My role involved writing firmware drivers, working with team members to develop communication packet structures for new devices, networking Raspberry Pi's to echo RS-485 data onto a TCP/IP interface, and using said network to monitor real-time data to track performance degradation of electronics in a high radiation environment.
