In this research I was involved in a simulation of organisational consultancy in order to put forward suggestions for improvement of the mentoring scheme in exam. Maintaining an objective external perspective towards the organisation gave me a chance of displaying consulting skills: building trust and being authentic.The choice for the subject of the case study has been taken by the fact that I was a contractor in the organisation. Lloyd’s of London has been a good opportunity for my HR studies as the organisation has a strong brand value in the UK.I have a personal and professional interest on the topic. Indeed, I decided to study mentoring scheme designs to include both short and long term goals: dissertation and HR career in people development.In order to build the research themes I firstly considered wider perspectives of mentoring literature without losing track of my overall research purposes. Secondly, I reviewed the plan every month in order to both effectively update it, and to efficiently direct my activities.This research let me prove my research skills in a different cultural setting. It has been really enhancing in terms of personal development having to talk in a foreign language about what I had read and studied.Aside from personal and people skills I start from scratch in regards to all the other skills required. Reflecting on the data analysis required judgement and creativity and I enjoyed testing ability of writing style.Working full time while being a full time student has been a challenge in organisation and time management.

Main duties: assisting event planning and supervising event execution and post-event analysis; participating in the creation of an educational project. Skills gained: reviewing activities and evaluating own personal development; evaluating a project to overcome obstacles in pursuing objectives.

Main duties: helpdesk activities; administrative support to students; fielding telephone calls, receiving and directing visitors, word processing, filing, email management; communicating complex information regarding a major organisational change. Skills gained: developing creative approaches in defining and solving problems; active learning; prioritising tasks to achieve results on time and within budget; communicating change and overcoming resistance to change.
