I love construction and have found myself excited to visualize the process of how things are built from the scratch. I have been obsessed with the idea of using the value-engineering approach to plan for a heavy civil project. I believe the success of a construction project is to deliver it on time and within budget, and all this starts from thorough planning during the bidding phase. I have worked in the heavy civil construction industry since 2017. I have worked on multi-billion projects in transportation, roads, tunnels, and bridges delivered through public-private partnership (P3) procurements. Currently, I am an Estimator and specialize in planning and estimating civil and structural works, including roads, traffic management and staging, removals, shoring walls, and landscaping. Moreover, I can adapt to both the office and construction site environments. Throughout the past years, I have had opportunities to work in both bidding offices and site offices in Toronto and Vancouver. I have realized how the responsibilities vary between a big team and a small team, even for the same position; and I can quickly fit in a team under different leadership types.I am a big believer in data visualization and thrive on presenting works in visual formats. Part of my daily responsivities involves quantity take-offs and calculations to make a budgetary plan. With software such as AutoCAD and Bluebeam, I make my findings easier to be understood. For example, I was responsible to present environmental and utility risks along an 18 km highway. To present my findings, I built a Google Earth model that incorporated the key information and I was able to digitally walk through the project corridor and explained the major issues with mitigation measures. Ultimately, this model not only made my presentation easy to follow but also allowed personnel who did not have relevant technical backgrounds to understand the risk and mitigation. Outside of my daily job, I manage house renovation projects in which I track the cost and budget, and manage the supply of materials. I found it interesting to apply knowledge and approaches from big corporations in managing small renovation projects. On the other hand, I am a passionate investor and have been actively investing in various markets since high school. This investment hobby has given me a data-oriented mindset and ultimately benefits my work as an Estimator and Project Control. I found myself very sensitive to numbers and can spot unusual trends and odd numbers while facing a large amount of information.
