Emil Votoček (1872–1950) byl významnou postavou české chemie, profesorem experimentální anorganické a organické chemie. Stal se jednou z vůdčích osobností České vysoké školy chemické, z jejíhož chemického odboru vznikla v roce 1920 Vysoká škola chemicko technologického inženýrství.Emil Votoček (1872-1950) was an important figure of Czech chemistry, professor of experimental inorganic and organic chemistry. He became one of the leading figures of the Czech Chemical College, from whose chemistry department the College of Chemical Engineering was founded in 1920.

The aim of the Chemistry Around Us exhibition is to point out the connections that many people are actually unaware of. Many of the objects we pick up every day, even several times, many of the processes we consider commonplace, originate from chemists in research, development, technology and industrial laboratories. Important personalities in the field are also featured. The work of the eminent Czech chemist Jaroslav Heyrovský, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1959 for his discovery of the polarograph, or the work of Otto Wichterle, whose invention of soft contact lenses was of worldwide significance, and in the exhibition visitors will be drawn to his replica of a lens machine from the Merkur kit.

The exhibition on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the Academy of Sciences presents in an attractive way the natural, medical and technical disciplines and the achievements of some of the institutes where these disciplines are cultivated and the results of their work. Emphasis is placed on introducing some of the Academy's important personalities (e.g. Jaroslav Heyrovský, Otto Wichterle, Antonín Holý). Not only young visitors will enjoy the historical and contemporary polytechnic science toys.
