Mipela GeoSolutions is a professional services and software company that specialises in making the most efficient use of customer’s information assets within the energy and infrastructure sectors. As the Support Specialist, my key purpose is to liaise and build strong client relationships and deliver high quality client services through technical and professional support. A component of this role includes developing training materials and the delivery of customised and generic software training to clients via face to face and the Internet. As the Marketing and Events Coordinator I am charged with developing and executing marketing activities and events, and maintaining the client database accordingly. Activities also included the development of product brochures, advertising campaigns, client social events, and coordinating the annual industry conference. I am also responsible for writing, designing and production of the quarterly newsletter and developing LinkedIn posts. During my time at Mipela, I have developed strong internal and external client relationships, and successfully carried out the support, marketing and events functions required of this role.

The Sugar Research Institute Fiji is a membership-based organisation providing research; development and technology transfer to the Fijian sugar industry. The Institute’s Chief Executive Officer engaged me in the capacity as Consultant/Advisor to develop an electronic library management system. This included identifying open source library management software options, configuring and customising selected software, developing a Library Management Procedures Manual and training local staff in the management and usage of the newly developed electronic system.

BSES Limited is the principal research, development and extension organisation serving both the agricultural and milling sectors of the Queensland and New South Wales sugar industries. As the BSES Marketing and Communications Specialist, my role was extremely diverse and covered a range of activities. Key Responsibilities• Operational responsibility for the delivery of Strategic internal and external marketing, communication, events and brand management activities.• Coordination and editorship of BSES information packages including the quarterly Bulletin and Annual Report.• Write and distribute media releases to stakeholders and relevant local media outlets.• Plan and coordinate the calendar of events including conferences, field days, presentations, product launches and press conferences.• Content development and management of the BSES Internet and intranet sites. • Develop and drive the BSES social media strategy.• Maintain and grow stakeholder relations including government agencies, industry partners, the local community and media.• Working with the research, development and extension team members in developing tailored information packages.Key Achievements• Using print and online mediums, successfully marketed the BSES sub-brands activities, products, and success stories.• Developed the new BSES Internet site and Intranet site including writing content. • Coordinated the International Agronomy and Agricultural Engineering Conference held in Townsville in September 2012 attended by national and international. • Developed marketing materials to showcase BSESs products and services.• Contributed and coordinated to the production of the BSES technical quarterly Bulletin, including writing articles. • Writing and dissemination of numerous industry media releases.• Coordination and contribution of the BSES Annual Report.

As the Communications Manager, my role was basically the same as the Marketing and Communications Specialist role highlighted above that covered a range of communications, brand management, community and media relations, marketing and events management activities. The only difference in the Communications Manager role was the added responsibility of managing the library and records departments. This included mentoring and management of library and records staff, developing and reviewing annual performance agreements and developing and monitoring of the library and records annual budgets.Please note: The move from Communications Manager to Marketing and Communications Specialist was the result of the restructure of BSES Limited that occurred at the end of 2011.
