About Ivan Chanis Barahona

Ivan Chanis was born in Panama in 1983 and has practised law since 2006 after graduating from the ´Universidad Católica Santa Maria La Antigua´, in Panama, obtaining a Law and Political Science Degree in the grade magna cum laude. That year, Panama’s Supreme Court admitted him to practice law in Panama. In 2009, he attended New York University School of Law, New York, obtaining an LL.M. degree in General Studies. He was a Merit Scholar at NYU and an LL.M. Representative to the Student Bar Association. After a successful career in diplomacy and advocating for human rights, Iván completed a Master of Public Policy to pursue his long-standing interest in the design and implementation of policy and the challenges faced whilst doing this in a complex society. By acquiring the tools and frameworks of a master's degree with an interdisciplinary approach, expanding the knowledge in philosophy, economics, evidence, politics and law in an extensive intellectual network, ensuring cutting-edge approaches to the current public policy challenges. Iván seeks to work internationally, promoting democracy and human rights and fighting economic and social inequality.In addition to his law career, he has studied international relations and diplomacy, where he has practised and specialized for the past years.His areas of specialization include international law, human rights, international relations, diplomacy and public policy.He can communicate fluently in Spanish and English and at a conversational level in Italian.
