• As a member of the Coal BU Leadership Team, led Cargill's Southern African coal business.• Responsible for restructuring a couple of problematic investments and off-take agreements.• Explored new markets (Cement) & opportunities (transportation and logistics) in the region, with a focus on the Tete coal in Mozambique, and the growing cement industries of Tanzania and Kenya.

• Initiated and headed up negotiations that led to Bidvest securing the sole marketing rights for Cargill's food sweetener and texturizing products in Southern Africa.• Was approached to start up this specialised food ingredients distribution business, based around the new Cargill contract. • Set up headquarters in Johannesburg, secured warehouses in Cape Town and Durban and built a sales network throughout South Africa.

• Brought in to integrate and restructure a problematic and under-performing acquisition (Duckworth). • Successful in bringing the company under control, integrating it into the Cargill systems, reducing costs (30% staff cuts) and rationalizing the operation. • CFS South Africa was restructured, made profitable and suitable to sell in 2012.

• Headed up Cargill's Ocean Transportation US freight trading office in New Jersey.• Responsible for developing a growth focused strategy.• Managed all of Cargill's dry and wet Americas based freight risk and vessel chartering activities, which included all grain, fertilizers, sugar, salt, petroleum and vegetable oil programs.• Relocated the office closer to customers, restructured the team, reduced costs, initiated and secured new customers & suppliers and rebuilt relationships with key internal customers. • Increased number of fixtures and turnover.

• A senior member of the Handy and Handymax bulk grain freight team. • Responsible for managing all of Cargill North Atlantic transatlantic and inter European handy and handymax freight chartering activities and risk management.

• May '92/Oct'94: Freight Risk & Chartering Manager for Cargill's worldwide non-petroleum tanker requirements.• Sept '90/May '92: Freight Risk & Chartering Manager for Cargill's worldwide sugar & rice requirements.• Proposed, developed and managed a time-chartered fleet of 6 tweendeckers that were tramped worldwide, mainly carrying sugar and rice.• May '88/Sept '90: Panamax Freight Trader for Cargill's newly formed Freight Trading Department (GFT).• Part of the project team that explored and then introduced Cargill to trading freight futures on the Baltic International Freight Futures Exchange (BIFFEX) in 1988.• June '87/May '88: Freight Trader within Cargill's vessel ownership department, where traded the companies cape size fleet of Oil-Bulk-Ore vessels and spent 4 months in Amsterdam trading a Cargill owned fleet of 8 small coaster drybulk vessels.• Aug '86/May'87: Trainee Freight Trader, mainly responsible for securing part cargo on board specialized chemical tankers.
