As a tech co-founder, my most significant achievement has been to create from scratch a fantastic tech team of incredible human beings that converted an idea into a product and a profitable company that is tripling income each year. We could iterate fast to explore our market fit with agility, know when to pay the tech debt, and not die when scaling.We got PCI certified very soon, which allowed us to provide our clients with a much better and smoother product and service and a much more cost-efficient solution by removing the need for an external PSP for core activities (such as recurring payments). I established relationships with strategic people in our market that allowed us to:* to integrate some huge merchants by overcoming different tech and non-tech-related challenges,* to develop win-win relationships with some providers (within the payments arena) and partners (for example, several eCommerce platforms).I comfortably partnered with the CEO and the Sales Manager to accompany them to visits with strategic clients and support them on the tech, product, and operative issues that could arise. Some of the achievements are the following:- Improve the time to market by reducing the software development complexity and the number of introduced bugs.- Improve the overall quality of the software produced.- Preparation for the sustainability of the software by migrating to newer technologies with better capabilities, support, and developers that can understand and evolve it easily. - Cost reduction by alleviating the servers' power needed to deploy our apps.Follow are some of the changes I implemented:- Reengineering some big monolithic apps into modular service-oriented architectures that can be developed and evolved independently.- Migration from the homemade framework into standard full-stack JEE applications (including an upgrade from JBoss 4.X to JBoss 7.X).- Migration from Java 5 to Java 7.- Change of custom ANT scripts to standardized maven building, including Jenkins and Artifactory integration.- Refactor of stateful webapps into stateless ones to be able to be deployed into an elastic infrastructure (as AWS autoscaling).- Refactor core components to eliminate heavy memory usage on application servers.- Migration of custom heavyweight Swing client into a NetBeans RCP client. - Migration of the ticketing platform from Agilo to Jira and implementing of the development workflows.- Implementation of code reviews (using FishEye + Crucible) and organization of development meetings to discuss and establish code conventions and development principles.This was parallel to developing new features with high quality but pragmatic and fast delivery orientation following the Extreme Programming principles.
