Completed a PhD in Immunology and Cancer Biology.Involved in the characterization at both cellular and molecular levels of the tumor immune microenvironment in Non-small Lung Cancer (NSCLC) patients and mouse models of the disease, using high dimensional approaches (scRNAseq, CyTOF, multi parameter flow cytometry, etc).Identified and characterized the role of the gene Triggering Receptor Expressed on Myeloid cells 2 (TREM2) in the modulation of the phenotype of lung tumor associated macrophages. We uncover the activation of a lipid metabolism and highly immunosuppressive molecular program upon TREM2 mediated phagocytosis of tumor antigen. We further delineate the mechanism of TREM2 mediated suppression of NK cell immune-surveillance in NSCLC, thus providing a rationale for the design of new therapeutic interventions to unleash NK cell anti tumoral immunity through the modulation of macrophage phenotype and function.

1) Developed and optimized protocols to characterize the heterogeneity in circulating tumor cells across prostate cancer patients using a single cell mass cytometry approach (CyTOF).2) investigated the role of the KISS1 and KISS1R genes in dormancy and metastasis, using human and murine prostate cancer cell lines and animal models of the disease.
