I've worked internationally all my career: since 2000 based in Hong Kong, Dubai and now Singapore, after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in London with PWC.I lead Stepping Stone’s Singapore team and act as “outsourced CFO” for SMEs in a number of sectors, backed by our awesome accounting and compliance teams across six countries.Prior to this I was an investment banker, for global institutions such as World Bank and HSBC as well as consulting for the C-suite and for clients’ finance or transaction teams. This was mostly in infrastructure finance - advising and lending to developers, investors and governments across Asia, the Middle East and Europe - as well as some VC/PE fundraising transactions. Over my career I've helped to win and close deals from $1m venture capital investments to $15bn infrastructure projects.

FounderStern & Co. 2004 - 2016I set up Stern & Co in Hong Kong to work as an independent consultant on deals from infrastructure and natural resources to VC & PE fundraisings.In infrastructure I worked with the World Bank on the US$1.2bn Madinah Airport in Saudi Arabia, and helped Siemens win over US$1bn of rail contracts in China. I also consulted for ETA Star (then part of the UAE conglomerate Al Ghurair) on managing their natural resources and asset-backed portfolio across Asia.Fundraising experience included advising a Singapore medtech company on its US$4m seed round, and an Australian environmental company raising a US$3.5m A round from Singapore investors.I continue to work on such transactions through Stepping Stone. -

We originated and led mandates including advising the Saudi Arabian developer of a US$250m 'International Medical City' in Oman and a UK bidder for a contract to build and operate ten schools in Abu Dhabi, as well as financial modelling and valuation roles on transactions around the region. -
ConsultantIfc - International Finance Corporation 2009 - 2011Washington, Dc, UsI helped lead the team advising the Saudi government on the US$1.4bn Madinah Airport redevelopment. This was named PFI Magazine's 'MENA Infrastructure Deal of the Year’, Euromoney's ‘Best Islamic Project Finance Deal’ and World Finance magazine's ‘Best Transport Project’.Our mandate included due diligence, financial modelling, feasibility study preparation and overseeing technical and legal consultants. During my contract we initiated, completed and sent to bidders the full RFP suite including Info Memo, financial model and concession contract.The project structure included a substantial government revenue share, with traffic & demand risk retained by the concessionaire - a groundbreaking project for the region. -

The firm was bought out in 2000 by Investec Bank.
