Managed vendor relationships and contracts with multiple OEMs and VARs.• Transformed the operations organization through implementation of best practices and controls (based on ITIL and COBIT) resulting in a 300% increase in change throughput, a reduction of operational risk, and a 10% reduction of operating costs.• Defined and implemented the Unix strategy, with focus on convergence of ERP systems (SAP and MAK) onto a common platform, resulting in 20% savings in licensing costs and increased performance.• Designed and implemented a data centre architecture to support corporate availability and resilience goals. I was responsible for networks and computing, facilities, security, telephone systems, service providers, outsourcing, software systems and internal software tools. I managed large projects, including deployment of software systems (financials, customer service and manufacturing), web-based tools used on the company intranet, network architecture, design and implementation, and database administration. As leader of a small IT organization, this position required a large amount of hands-on work, including on-call support. I was the primary administrator for the Windows 2000 network and e-mail systems (Exchange 5.5 and 2000)

Strategy and Program OfficeAs leader of the eService program office, I was responsible for defining Nortel's IT strategy for delivering customer services over the web. This role included marketing, allocation of funding for projects, definition of eService functionality based on customer and internal business needs, customer engagement and competitive analysis.

In this position, I was responsible for managing a software design team of over 30 people within the Optical Networks customer service organization. My responsibilities included the development of tools and utilities to be used by customers in the management of their optical networks, setting the platform and systems strategy for a $100M+ business, leveraging IT investment to reduce cost and increase revenue, and creating an environment which supports short time to market while maintaining quality and business value.

As a member of the KeyInfo product line (a service level network management tool), I was responsible for reworking the architecture of the system to increase usability, designing the user interface, and writing the code. The system was written in C in a Solaris/Xview environment.

Reporting to the director of customer service, I was responsible for development and deployment of software tools and processes to the Public Carrier Networks (PCN) customer service organization. Managing a team of 25 software developers, project managers, and IT support personnel, I delivered systems ranging in size from small efficiency tools, to major customer facing network efficiency management systems. I was responsible for the IT infrastructure for a group of over 60 customer service engineers, including desktop support for Unix and Macintosh systems.

Various roles, including software upgrade engineer, patch writing for DMS-100, and software tool development.

Working within the test engineering organization, I was responsible for developing software to drive automated test equipment (ATE). The work was done in both proprietary and Unix environments.

As a test/production engineer, I was responsible for the design of hardware and software for custom-built test equipment, review of product designs to ensure testability, and the development of test procedures.
