As a Co-Design Team Member with The Annie E. Casey Foundation, I contribute to a groundbreaking initiative aimed at eliminating the need for group placements in Allegheny County's child welfare system. This collaborative effort centers the voices of young people, families, and community stakeholders to co-create community-driven solutions that address the root causes of disproportionate group placements, especially for Black, Brown, Indigenous, and LGBTQ+ youth. Together, we develop strategies that prioritize equity, inclusion, and shared decision-making between communities and the Office of Children, Youth, and Families (CYF).In this role, I work closely with a diverse team to facilitate discussions, analyze data, and engage with community leaders to propose solutions that will be tested throughout 2024. My responsibilities include supporting young people and families as equal partners in the design process, organizing and co-facilitating team meetings, and fostering open communication between stakeholders.

“About UsThe Council on Foster Care, Adoption, and Kinship Care (COFCAKC) was formed in 2011 when the Section on Adoption and Foster Care (founded in 2000) merged with relevant parts of the Committee on Early Childhood, Adoption, and Dependent Care, and the Task Force on Foster Care.VisionAll children and youth who are at risk for or have experienced family disruption will achieve their full health potential with the support of safe, stable, and nurturing families and communities.MissionWith equity, diversity and inclusion as guiding principles, the Council on Foster Care, Adoption, and Kinship Care promotes the health and development of children and youth who are at risk for or have experienced family disruption. The Council accomplishes this by developing policy guidelines for comprehensive and trauma-informed care, advocating for child and youth to thrive, and providing education and support to the members of the American Academy of Pediatrics, other health professionals, and the child welfare community.”Source: https://www.aap.org/en/community/aap-councils/council-on-foster-care-adoption-and-kinship-care/about-cofcakc/
