Dissertation: "Alterity relationships in the intercultural contact : perspectives from foreign students at University of Sao Paulo". Full-time research scholarship (100% grant, 0% loan), Coordinationfor the improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES)The results of the research showed that the meaning of the intercultural experience to the students was mainly related to the use of the language, the comparison between the countries and the living as a foreigner, all relevant to the dynamic of the interchange role.The analysis of the results highlighted categories such as: - Time:- gender;- cultural references; - language;- self-knowledge;- ambiguous living, which were debated with the notion of "otherness". For the development of the university exchange programs, these results indicate the need of an action and revision of university procedures about hosting the demand that transforms the context of education itself. In the level of the intercultural relations, the results unfold a reflection over the possibilities and limits of otherness, undergoing the cultural frontiers and the experience of being a foreigner in the contemporary intercultural contact.
