Texas Tales is an ensemble of actors, teaching artists, and musicians who create an entertaining environment in the classroom where children use their personal voices and powerful imaginations in creative writing workshops and in-school performances. The Stephen and Mary Birch Texas Theatre acts as the home base for The Texas Tales’ rehearsals, productions, and public performances of the student’s work. I established a curriculum that was then pitched to grant panels, school administrators, and teachers. That curriculum was then "taught" to teaching artists that went through an interview and audition process in order to become contract employees. Following the in-class workshops where students wrote stories in groups, I held auditions for professional musicians and actors who would adapt the stories into songs and short skits. A week of rehearsals then led to a professional actor's performance for the entire school where the students work was celebrated.
