About Ian Washburn

As the Deputy CISO and Director of Information Security at the University of Notre Dame, I oversee operational security, participate in developing strategic initiatives and oversee the university’s awareness program. As part of an organization that is more than 90% cloud hosted, cloud security is a large part of my team's focus. I have more than a dozen years of experience in the cybersecurity and privacy field, and in that time have attained and maintained these industry focused certifications CISM, CIPM, CISSP, GLEG, and GMOB.My profession is translating data and technical risks into business priorities and to supporting the academic mission of Notre Dame. I also leverage my expertise and network to conduct peer assessments and provide consulting services for other higher education institutions through REN-ISAC. I am a board officer, a MOR leadership graduate, and an equity advocate in the security and privacy community.
