At Emcore (formerly Systron Donner Inertial), I worked on two primary projects:I helped complete DO-254 verification and transition-to-production activities for an FPGA-based IMU for the Boeing 777X. I performed hardware testing, performed VHDL and filter analyses, and led the final stage-of-involvement audit.I ported an embedded realtime processing application to a TI TMS320F28335 processor and wrote a custom firmware bootloader plus a .NET application for production configuration for a family of IMUs.Aside from these two major projects, I worked with existing firmware code and solved several software issues via a variety of hardware and software debugging techniques. I also supported verification and documentation for production firmware releases.

Aside from my own PhD research, my work in RASCAL has primarily been supporting projects involving the use of a single electromyography (EMG) sensor to control computer and robotic interfaces for highly disabled individuals. I have contributed to discussions regarding signal processing methods and experiment design, and I have implemented the techniques resulting from these discussions in the form of Android applications for testing the control interfaces with able-bodied and disabled subjects.Because of the recency of the technical innovation involving the use of smartphone and tablet hardware to record EMG, standard hardware interfaces do not exist. Early in my position in RASCAL, I designed custom printed circuit boards to make powering the EMG amplifiers and connecting them to the mobile devices simpler.My time in this lab has allowed me to advance my skills with electronics, software development, embedded development, signal processing, and machine learning. I have also gained experience with human subject testing and an interest in neuroscience.

I have served as a teaching assistant for several engineering courses at UC Davis.I was a lead TA for capstone senior design in mechanical engineering (EME 185, Winter/Spring 2017). In this role, I assist several teams through product development exercises to benefit their design project outcome, grade their weekly reports, and perform additional organizational tasks for the course.For Mechanical Vibrations (ENG 122, Fall 2016 and Fall 2017), I helped introduce scientific computing with Python, allowing students with no prior Python experience to simulate and reason about vibratory systems using the scientific Python stack. I also was able to help develop a computational framework for learning mechanical vibrations via Python, create homework assignments, and administer a JupyterHub server for students to use.For a Measurement Systems course (EME 107B, Fall 2012), I supervised laboratory sessions involving the use of electronic circuits to measure mechanical phenomena and graded lab reports.

With Superb Tutors, I was able to help high school and college students in fundamental math, physics, and engineering courses.

I assisted a PhD student in the Sports Biomechanics Lab with a project involving robotic control of a riderless bicycle. Specifically, I developed a C program for the robot’s STM32 microcontroller for steering encoder calibration, and I produced a wiring diagram for the robot’s circuitry and hardware.

With the IEL in the mechanical engineering department, I developed problems and challenges for programming and robotics competitions for middle and high school students, which later became part of C-STEM Day at UC Davis. I also worked on wireless remote control of the modular robots developed in the lab.
