About Nalini Iyer

As a professor, I specialize in postcolonial literatures especially South Asia and Africa.I teach 19th and 20th century British Literatures, Postcolonial Feminist literature and theory, and have expertise in critical race theory. I have co-edited a book "Other Tongues: Rethinking the Language Debates in India" (with Bonnie Zare) in 2009. My second book (co-authored with Amy Bhatt) "Roots and Reflections: South Asians in the Pacific Northwest" was published by the University of Washington Press in 2013.My third book ( co-edited with Amritjit Singh and Rahul K. Gairola) is "Revisiting India's Partition: New Essays in Memory, Culture, and Politics" which was published in 2016 by Lexington Books and Orient Blackswan. I have also guest co-edited with Amritjit Singh a special issue of the journal Comparative Literature Studies (issue 53.2) with the topic "Beyond the Anglophone: Comparative South Asian Literatures." I am currently working on a monograph on South Asian American Literature and racialization and co-editing a book on teaching anglophone South Asian diasporic literature. I am Theiline Pigott-McCone Endowed Chair in the Humanities 2020-2022.As Director of Research, 2011-2017, I was responsible for management of sponsored projects at SU, supervising sponsored project administrators, for managing internal research initiatives, promoting faculty research, developing faculty-student collaborations, and non-financial research compliance. In the six years I served in this position, SU doubled its grant submissions, received prestigious grants such as the NSF ADVANCE and a Department of State grant, built a robust research compliance infrastructure, grew its student research initiatives, and established an undergraduate research journal (SUURJ).As Editor in Chief of South Asian Review, the journal of The South Asian Literary Association published by Taylor and Francis, I am the first woman appointed to this position. I oversee the development and publication of 4 issues annually and collaborate with a team of Managing and Associate Editors.
