Reporting directly to the Vice President for CSS’ Department of Policy Research and Advocacy and as a member of the Department’s housing team, which addresses a wide range of housing issues, the Senior Policy Analyst focuses on the crisis in public housing—the future of NYCHA and its residents. Responsibilities include shaping and carrying out CSS’ research and advocacy agenda, producing publishable policy briefs and reports, working effectively with relevant coalitions, consulting with key decision and thought leaders, providing technical assistance to resident and community organizations, maintaining CSS’ network of NYCHA resident leaders and advocates through periodic resident/advocate forums and the monthly e-mail newsletter, NYCHA Need to Know. The Senior Policy Analyst also analyzes data from our Unheard Third Survey and other large data sets to inform our efforts.

The Institute for Policy Integrity is a non-partisan think tank at NYU Law School working to deliver economic and legal analysis in support of optimal policy implementation across many environmental issues. Within this context, policies and regulatory actions often include grandfathering clauses that either partly or fully exempt certain entities from complying with new regulations for a period of time. Due to the limited research available on the designs and impacts of grandfathering provisions, the Institute consulted with my NYU Wagner Capstone team to study their implementation and use across multiple sectors.

As the Urban Policy and Planning Fellow, I was responsible for researching and producing annual and monthly policy reports, including an Annual Construction Outlook, Affordable Housing Report, and Capital Budget Update. I analyzed data and produced visualizations and tidbits for senior staff. I wrote advocacy letters, press releases, op-eds, position statements and policy memos and gave testimonies in front of the NYC Department of City Planning and City Council Subcommittee on Zoning. I contributed to NYC Mayor DeBlasio’s BQE redevelopment Task Force by carrying out research. I also drafted the monthly Government Affairs Newsletter.

ImagineBernie seeks to provide the Sanders campaign additional organized logistical support using social media.We research for Bernie Connect (Connect.BernieSanders.com) by promoting the platform across all fifty states while collecting vital user data.We analyze huge amounts of data to help our fellow volunteer engineers to further improve Bernie Connect.Over the next few weeks, we hope to build upon the ImagineBernie website to include useful features not apparent on Bernie Connect.
