About Izzy Lake
I am currently working as a Marine Observation Systems Scientist using autonomous monitoring platforms around the UK as part of our eutrophication monitoring and assessment requirements at Cefas. Within this role, I am one of the Scientists-in-Charge on our RV, in which I organise surveys to service our autonomous platforms: SmartBuoys, Noise Landers, and Waveriders. During these surveys, we also undertake regular water quality sampling using our onboard flow-through system and a CTD Rosette for sample collection. I am an experienced fieldworker for both vessel-based and shore-based work with regular fieldwork around the UK and overseas. My area of fieldwork expertise focuses on collecting oceanographic water quality parameters.Previously, I gained experience as a habitat mapping scientist, as well as an analytical chemist focusing on the nutrient analysis of seawater around the UK and for overseas projects.Beforehand, I completed postgraduate research on seagrass distribution, abundance, biomass, growth rate and isotopic content in shallow-water tidal areas around the south coast of Eleuthera, The Bahamas with Newcastle University.I enjoy taking on different tasks throughout a workplace, multi-tasking, and engaging with local communities to help bridge the divide between peoples perception of science and hopefully better the understanding of what, how, and why we do the work we do.As a team leader, I have progressed others careers and developed the strengths of my team. I am an effective organiser and motivator therefore a successful team member and leader, using innovative ideas to establish and reach desired outcomes.
