About J. Adam Scribner, Ed.D.

I bridge theory to practice to create transformative STEM teaching and learning experiences designed to foster the next generation of scientists, engineers, creators, and innovators. In my current role, over the last seven years, I have served as principal investigator or co-principal investigator of 35 grant-funded projects totaling more than $4.6M to advance STEM education in Indiana and beyond. This includes projects pertaining to cancer research, artificial intelligence, underwater robotics, and climate engineering as well as international collaborative projects in Ankara, Bangkok, Berlin, and the Galápagos Islands.

    -Cultivate and foster partnerships with school districts, informal education providers, industry, and other key stakeholders to design and implement K12 STEM education programs and conduct research to advance STEM teaching and learning. -Procured 35 local, state, and federal STEM education grants totaling more than $4.5M.-Instructor for Q200, Introduction to Scientific Inquiry, a lab-based science course and E328, Science Education Methods.-Co-PI on NSF STEM+C Collaborative Research Grant titled PrimaryAI: Integrating Artificial Intelligence into Upper Elementary Science with Immersive Problem-Based Learning. This $1.5M project investigates how young learners can be introduced to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence in the context of its application to solving core science problems. -PI of Educating for Environmental Change, a project that helps educators effectively teach the science and policy of climate change. -PI of ISTEAM, Integrating Art into STEM, a project that brings together art and STEM educators to explore connections and develop inquiry-based activities that engage students in creative and innovative pursuits.-PI of Project LIFT, a program that integrates STEM and literacy using the Novel Engineering curriculum for rural Indiana schools. -Co-PI of Global STEAM, a project that helps teachers infuse global perspectives into STEAM education. -Develop and implement Authentic STEM (A-STEM) projects, school–based communities of practice that utilize industry aligned tasks and STEM professional volunteers in the classroom. To date, these projects have been implemented in 12 school districts directly impacting more than 870 students and 35 educators.-Led international collaboration projects in Ankara, Bangkok, Berlin, and the Galapagos Islands.

    -Co-developed WaterBotics, a curriculum that tasks middle and high school students to design, build, and test underwater robots, funded by two successive NSF grants (waterbotics.org).-Facilitated more than 60 one-day and week-long STEM, STEAM, and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) professional development workshops for K-12 formal and informal educators using innovative curricula, research-based instructional strategies, and grade-level and age appropriate exemplars. Consistently received excellent reviews from attendees. -Designed and implemented STEAM: Integrating Art into STEM, a project funded by the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation that brought together middle school art and STEM teachers to engage students in creative and technological pursuits. The STEAM program impacted more than 90 educators and 15,000 students from high-needs urban school districts throughout New Jersey (ciese.org/steam).-Partnered with the Bayer Foundation and Astronaut Mae Jemison to plan, facilitate, and direct the Bayer Alka-Seltzer Rocket Challenge for more than 500 NJ middle school students at Liberty Science Center (NJ), Spring 2014.-Cultivated partnerships with Stevens Institute's faculty members, various school districts, grant providers, and organizations such as the Boys and Girls Clubs of New Jersey, to improve teaching and learning of K-12 science and engineering education. -Provided educator coaching support for CIESE’s PISA2 program, an $11.5M NSF grant aimed at improving teaching of physical science for teachers, grades 3-8.-Organized numerous outreach programs for Stevens Institute of Technology including the annual STEM-A-Thon, the WaterBotics and STEAM Summer Academies, Family Engineering Nights, and programming for the Stevens Enrichment Program. -Presented at numerous professional conferences including ITEEA, NSTA, ASEE, and NAA.

Joined grant-funded “Early Man in Spain” paleontological dig in Orce, Spain to determine when and how hominids first entered Europe (August, 2003).
