Served as the Principal Deputy Spokesperson of an organization with more than 75,000 employees, a global footprint, and the mission of advancing America’s interests worldwide. Advised the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and other senior leaders on key public affairs matters. Coordinated the daily public affairs operations of 30 regional and functional bureaus and offices; developed communications campaigns to integrate their efforts in support of national objectives. Reviewed and approved public messaging – social media, official statements, factsheets, and talking points – for release from the Department’s flagship accounts or for use by spokespersons. Implemented a program of briefings by policy experts and Department leaders to articulate U.S. policy to domestic and foreign audiences.

Developed and managed programs to communicate U.S. foreign and national security policy, including the 2017 National Security Strategy, to domestic and international audiences. Ensured unity of message across the Executive Branch by routinely developing press guidance on foreign policy and coordinating its use by spokespersons from 15 departments and agencies. Cultivated relationships with national correspondents and foreign journalists from print, TV, and multi-media outlets and interacted with them daily to pitch stories and answer queries across a broad range of issues. Crafted dozens of official statements from the President of the United States and the White House Press Secretary.

Developed a three year plan to improve integration across the enterprise and to align work streams with new strategic guidance. Served as the senior military advisor of the U.S. representative to a United Nations group focused on Syria, providing daily operational updates and recommending approaches for international meetings. Met delivery timelines and stayed within budget while managing three simultaneous research projects with a combined budget in excess of $2M.

Managed a diverse staff of 200+ military and civilian personnel in the development of long range plans to support national security objectives and supervised the conduct of daily operations. Directed the organization’s strategic communication efforts, including briefings to visiting senior officials and Congressional delegations, as well as overseeing the organization’s social media outreach. Advised the senior executive on all matters, from personnel to operations, as he oversaw U.S. advisory efforts to 40% of the Afghan Army.

Coordinated and prepared the senior executive (commanding general) for strategic engagements with foreign dignitaries, members of Congress, and the press. Supervised the development of talking points, briefing materials, interview preparation references, and formal speeches.

Developed strategic guidance to influence future manning and organization decisions, as well as military acquisition efforts, in support of Army maneuver forces. Crafted and implemented the Campaign of Learning for the Army's Maneuver Center of Excellence to ensure training exercises, simulations, and other research addressed first order questions to drive change for the Army's future maneuver force.

Led an organization of more than 170 military and civilian personnel charged with the indoctrination and training of more than 4,500 new soldiers annually. Increased a critical performance metric of the organization by more than 100% by shifting resources and incorporating new strategies for training focused on improving outcomes.

Evaluated and advised staffs of large organizations (800+ person) during demanding training scenarios in preparation for combat operations. Improved unit readiness by conceptualizing and implementing plans for two capstone training exercises for units preparing for deployment to combat.

Orchestrated the manning, equipping, movement, and logistical support for a 1,000 person multinational organization in combat. Managed the resourcing and construction of a major forward operating base (1200+ man) and two outposts (150 man) in a hostile environment, all while engaged in combat operations.

Built an entirely new 4,500+ person organization, by synchronizing the fielding of equipment with personnel arrivals to meet critical readiness objectives and pre-deployment timelines. Planned and supervised the execution of all the brigade’s training, from individual skills to complex live-fire exercises, in preparation for a combat deployment, all within 13 months.

Increased operational budget by 90% by developing and executing a plan that secured additional funding for the organization. Managed a 13 person staff that provided administrative and logistical support to five subordinate organizations charged with training in excess of 3,300 soldiers annually.

Taught English Literature, Basic and Advanced Composition at one of the top thirty colleges in the United States, and served as deputy director of a multidisciplinary course on Iranian culture. As a volunteer devoted in excess of 12 hours a week to coach the West Point judo team, supervising trips to dozens of tournaments, including consecutive 2nd place rankings at Collegiate Nationals.
