Working closely with the Assistant Principal, I took ownership of Romero Academy at Resurrection’s systems for student information and state reporting. In this role I balanced multiple projects and deadlines while also providing an appropriate level of responsiveness to unforeseen needs as they emerged. I was the school’s first point of contact for parents, as well as the public. I was solely responsible for maintaining the main office in all aspects, from clerical work to enrollment management. In the course of a few minutes I could be found assisting a parent with enrollment paperwork, greeting a potential donor touring the school, and then quickly pivoting to problem-solve with a kindergartener who left their coat on the bus. I enjoyed being a part of this game-changing environment for underserved children and Catholic education at-large.

In this role I supported 150+ preservice teachers through their student teaching experience, as well as edTPA. To better support student teachers with their edTPA, I attended a 5 week edTPA webinar program series through Pearson. I also built agenda points for monthly student teacher seminars through collaboration at monthly meetings with the Director of Clinical Placements and Field Experiences.

I worked with the GradU8 program within the Student Success Center, which focuses on supporting students to have a smooth transition from high school to college in order to earn a bachelor’s degree in as little time as possible. Working with the GradU8 program gave me great insight on working with not just first-year students, but also student leaders on campus. From meeting 1-on-1 with first-year students to discuss and assist their experience to teaching topics like time management and registering for classes to 15 learning partners, this internship provided me with a firm background in building relationships with students and prioritizing student success.

Throughout my four years of teaching 5th grade language arts at Piqua Central Intermediate School I taught both face-to-face and virtually, as well as served on committees and advised after-school programs. I have a firm knowledge of the Lucy Calkins reading and writing workshop curriculum and model, Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Literacy Instruction and Benchmark Assessment System, as well as the Words Their Way spelling program. I engaged my students through relevant instruction and continuous feedback, as well as used PBIS methods to enhance classroom management.

I mentored and advised 40 first-year students on personal, professional, and academic areas. In collaboration with 17 other resident advisors, I also worked to create an inclusive living and learning community through relationship building and programming. Within this role I developed transferable skills, such as mediation, conflict resolution, and crisis response.

As an Orientation Leader, I interacted with thousands of incoming students to help ease their transition to college. During orientation days I navigated various roles, such as serving on student panels to answer student and parent concerns, mentoring small groups of incoming students, and providing tours. To prepare for serving incoming students and families, I completed one semester of leadership and teamwork training. I also trained 12 opening weekend group leaders to assist and engage first-year students during their opening weekend on campus.
