Resolvity was a small startup whose custom VXML-based Interactive Voice Response platform allowed for far more complex interactions than were previously possible. It's hard to synthesize your best and worst job into a single paragraph. I walked into a four-person company which had an idea and some funding and I was given the freedom to design and build a huge complex system from scratch. They threw a speech scientist, an AI PhD, and a few good programmers at what seemed like a stale industry. I worked relentlessly to build all manner of call flow, grammar, UI, and reporting - in retrospect, we totally over-delivered a robust and extensible system that was perhaps more than most customers cared to pay for.

Securus was the nation's leading provider of phone systems and software for prisons! It was really kind of scandalous. I worked on two very different projects there: first, I developed criminal investigation software in Java. Later, I helped design their new SIP/VoIP phone system, developing a management and monitoring GUI, and the (now patented) real-time SHA watermarking of recordings.

Tallán is a consulting company for Fortune-100 companies. I worked on-site at FedEx to help integrate systems after Kinkos acquisition, and on-site at Ingram Micro building a software licensing framework. I took the position to "switch languages" from C++ to Java/J2EE, but the skill I honed most was writing epically complex SQL.

WolfeTech was a leading provider of information services and applications in the two-way paging market. Their best-known products were PocketGenie, PI, Sigma, and WolfeStock. The best thing about this job was that we were engaged in a tiny (form factor) "browser war" with two other companies and with RIM itself, and I got to collaborate on one browser and write another from scratch – literally everything including rendering tables, lists, gifs, we even had to do line wrapping manually.
