Leader | Researcher | Technology Enthusiast | Director | Curricula Developer Co-ordinator of Durham College’s (DC) Game – Art program and a lead researcher with the college’s Office of Research Services, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (ORSIE), I am a lifelong learner who is committed to integrating technology across multiple program curricula to leverage advanced learning opportunities for students and prepare them to meet current industry demand. With a passion for information and communications technologies, my significant expertise in these areas has propelled the ongoing enhancement of DC’s Game – Art program including a focus on cross-program collaboration to create and deliver enriched program content. This includes a strong focus on real-time game engines, architectural previsualization, training and simulation and virtual production.My enthusiasm for the college’s research agenda is reflected in my leadership on several applied research projects under ORSIE including my role as principal investigator for DC’s new Mixed Reality Capture (MRC) Studio. Designed to foster collaboration and growth, the MRC Studio will offer an innovative new applied research environment for DC’s industry partners that supports the exploration of human interaction within a virtual space. In particular, students will have the opportunity to engage in and learn from real-world application through partnerships and research opportunities with external collaborators in areas such as “motion capture (MC), virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR). A mentor to both students and faculty, I play a key role in the recruitment of top industry players to the DC team and represent the college at gaming-focused conferences across Ontario and beyond. I am also committed to the development of meaningful research opportunities for partner companies and organizations including a newly proposed ‘Enriched Firefighter Training’ program, which aims to improve training through life-like experiential learning in an immersive virtual-reality environment.
