- Integrated lateral flow readout with CRISPR-Cas-mediated detection of isothermal nucleic acid amplification including sensitivity, time-to-result, and root-cause analysis of non-specific signal.- Designed and executed usability and performance studies to compare visual readout methods for future devices.

- Developed 5 distinct lateral flow test strips for detection of polypeptides and nucleic acid reporters in complex matrices of anterior nasal swabs, urine, saliva, and reagents of isothermal nucleic acid amplification and cell-free protein synthesis. Optimized test strips by screening and selecting functional antibodies, paper materials, sample and running buffers. - Performed extensive optimization of conjugation of proteins to gold nanoparticles using covalent chemistry to produce stable, scalable gold conjugates with high sensitivity and specificity. Identified intermediate characterization metrics and executed accelerated stability tests.- Collaborated with CRO/CMO for paper-based immunoassay development and supported transfer of test strip fabrication process to and from CRO/CMO.- Generated data for co-authorship of publication describing lateral flow-based detection of RNA targets through cell-free expression cassette formation (in press, Nature BME)

Member of the assay development team, supported the verification and validation of a rapid toxin test for the detection of C. difficile which was submitted for FDA clearance in Q4 of 2019.Responsibilities included:- Design and execution of product and reagent stability studies. Aided in the execution and analyses of studies including LoD, Hook Effect, Microbial Interference, Chemical Interference, and Specimen Stability.- Assisting in the execution and troubleshooting of the conjugation of magnetic and fluorescent particles for multiple assays. Aided in the initial process transfer of conjugated materials from the R&D department to manufacturing.- Technical writing including assay development reports, test methods and reports, work instructions and manufacturing batch records.

Member of the technical team, supporting the development of Silk Voice, a silk protein injectable treatment for vocal fold dysphonia. Responsibilities include:- Manufacturing of injectable, silk-based medical device system according to GLP standards.- Performed inspections and assign lot numbers for incoming chemicals and raw materials; maintenance of tool, equipment, and part number files. - Worked in ISO 7 cleanroom to produce medical grade silk products; trained in proper gowning and working procedures for environmental clean room.- Performed quality control measures for batch consistency including, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and gels.- Assisted in development of the Quality System, including drafting and editing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), failure mode effects analysis (FMEA), validation plans, test protocols, work instructions and design reviews for the transition from research to manufacturing. - Ongoing research in next generation products, including drug release and stabilization in biomaterial matrices

Worked on synthesizing zeolites and running tests on samples to characterize and examine the properties of zeolites. Characterization was performed via FT-IR and H-NMR. Experiments included selective adsorption of alcohols and the use of zeolites as a catalyst. PI: Dr. Steven Frey

Interned as a member of one of the analytical development groups. This group was responsible for performing HPLC, UPCL, and GC. Worked primarily on a project involved dissolution of different drug formulations with the goal of developing an extended release formulation. I prepared dissolution baths, extracted samples and analyzed samples using HPLC and Empower2. This work aided the formulations group to choose a final formulation by the end of my internship. Other responsibilities included preparing mobile phase, buffers, weighing samples, cleaning glassware. Completed GMP training for HPLC, dissolution, maintaining a laboratory notebook, reference standards, balances, volumetric glassware and pipettes, and use of a pH meter.
