Mr. Roberts has served as President, CEO or Chairman of six Florida banks. Known equally for his leadership with top performing, as well as ‘turnaround’ banks, he understands the ever-increasing regulatory pressures faced by his peers. As a veteran Florida community bank executive, Roberts was first elected bank President at age 29. During his extensive career, he led three banks to become the first or second top performers in the state and oversaw four “turnarounds” including confronting and managing Memorandums of Understanding, Formal Agreements and Cease and Decease mandates. His career included leading two distressed banks to top performance, and nursing another through a regulatory closing.His leadership skills, knowledge and experience have been extensively utilized by his community bank peers. He served as President of the Florida Bankers Association, on the Executive Committee of the Community Banker’s Council of the American Bankers Association and as a Director and member of the Executive Committee of the Independent Community Banker’s Association. He was elected Chairman of the Board of the Florida Independent Bankers Bank as well as Chairman of the Board of the Florida Bankers Insurance Trust. He has been a guest lecturer for the Florida School of Banking at the University of Florida and for the Graduate Banking School at the University of Wisconsin.His leadership service extends deep into the community, having taken leadership roles in government, civic, education, banking and religious organizations. These include being elected mayor, municipal judge and city council president. He has also been President of a Rotary Club, Chambers of Commerce and an economic development organization. He and his wife, Cindy, are proud of being two of the founders of one of the country’s most successful Habitat for Humanity affiliates. He was also an organizer of the Okaloosa-Walton Community College Foundation, which now has assets exceeding $50,000,000.Mr. Roberts has authored a book about his life and 60-year career as a community banker. The book is titled “I Did It My Way.” It is available on Amazon.com. In 2022 he was an organizing Director of Evermore Bank in Fort Lauderdale, FL and continues to serve on that Board. The Florida Bankers Association presented him their “Life Time Achievement Award” at their 2023 annual convention.
