I received my Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville (UTK) in mechanical engineering. My doctoral research centered around increasing the capabilities of Arc-DED to deposit large overhangs for complex geometry by developing and implementing custom trajectory planning strategies. While at UTK, I was also responsible for developing sensing and controls for the Tracking Fluoroscope System (TFS), a custom-designed research robot sensing array designed to take non-invasive fluoroscopy of patients with knee replacements. While working on my Ph.D. I was involved with research at the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF), part of Oak Ridge National Lab (ORNL) where I worked on a variety of projects including in-situ monitoring, data correlation for Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF), and large scale Arc-DED. While working there, I integrated my Ph.D. work for trajectory planning techniques with the metal Big Area Additive Manufacturing (mBAAM) group at the MDF.Currently I work at EWI in the Arc Welding and DED Processes group where I serve as the Research Leader. I primarily work on Arc-DED using a variety of welding processes including plasma arc welding (PAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and gas metal arc welding (GMAW). I have experience with performing welding or Arc-DED with a variety of industrial robotic systems including ABB, Fanuc, Kuka, UR, OTC, Motoman, Cloos, and OTC. I also have been a part of many automation projects including welding, arc-DED, torch cutting, grinding, and other various manufacturing tasks.
