This training includes the utilization of many specialized tools (from plasma cutters to pneumatic tools to atmospheric testing devices) in hazardous situations. Squad 1 (aka "The Water Boys") specialized in water and dive rescue. Squad 2 (aka "The Squad Dogs") specialize in Hazardous Materials Response. While attending the University of Missouri, St. Louis, I worked at FDHQ in the business office. I was assigned the position of bookkeeper after answering the question "Can you add and subtract with relative accuracy ?" in the affirmative. I advanced to the position of Fiscal Manager before returning to "the track" on Squad 2. The Business Office oversaw all revenue and expense accounts including payroll, purchasing or equipment, and supervised the expenditure (including purchasing) for $225 million in bond issues.
