Moved from McCormick to provide team leadership and critical knowledge transfer on a one-year contract after IT Operations was outsourced to Capgemini. I directed a Global DBA team of up to 12 and managed the Batch Processing team of up to 5 people, with most team members offshore in India. In this role, I planned, installed, configured, secured, connected, monitored, tuned, and troubleshot critical and complex application/database environments, 24/7/365 across 15 time zones for on-premises databases and 3 Azure regions. I built a high-performance and reliable team by coordinating the work effort and communication flow. Notable Contributions:►Created the new Azure SQL Server database on Microsoft’s Best practices resulting in High Availability and performance consistently above 99% uptime.►Led the global Database and Batch Management staff through a successful outsource transition from client to Capgemini. Achieved all knowledge transfer goals to the new managers and team members while managing an aggressive team workload and staff responsibility. ►Built a Cloud DevOps roadmap to perform a production migration with the least amount of downtime. Provided the technical leadership for several SQL Server 2019 database upgrades to Azure IaaS.►Collaborated with key stakeholders and the IT business liaison to perform testing and verification in the development environment that met all agreed-upon schedules.►Coordinated Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity (BC) efforts with the new backup and recovery team to set up the Azure IaaS database backup/recovery standards based on the business's service level agreements and Azure DR testing. ►Partnered with the Security team to enforce Azure security through the new Azure roles, best practices, and centralized audited change control process.

As the functional Database Lead, I managed a global team of five DBAs and up to 4 Junior DBAs. I was entrusted by management to create and implement the company's SQL Server standards, which stabilized and secured the US SQL Server instances.Notable Contributions:►Decreased the IO utilization and sped up the query processing for over 900 application databases by creating new filegroups and adding data files on the new drives and SAN NICs requested for the heavily used OLTP database servers. ►Introduced strategies to migrate large databases that reduced downtime from hours to within an hour, depending on the database's size.►Collaborated with application vendors and business stakeholders on capacity planning that met the business's projected future growth. ►Proactively tuned the database by providing Weekly Top 10 queries to vendors, developers, and business liaisons and making cost-effective tuning adjustments based on a review of the Query Analyzer and the Query Store. ►Capitalized on Foglight and SQL Server DMVs monitoring tools to identify performance improvements through increased frequency of index rebuilds/reorganizations, updating statistics, resizing database log files, restructuring database datafiles, reconfiguring database properties, and Tempdb/RAM utilization. ►Successfully led SQL Server 6.5 to 2019 upgrades and security/update patching, Foglight database monitoring upgrades, and server migration, MySQL/PostgreSQL to MSSQL, Hardware to virtual, and virtual to IaaS/PaaS with nearly zero downtime.►Demonstrated a 100% production database recovery rate by stress testing all database backup/recovery standards and procedures.►Provided data access transparency for data owners and security for users directly accessing the data, enforcing security through access control paperwork, procedures, and change control process.
