Clinical Research Coordinator
⁃ Job duties included supervising and directing a research team selected to take part in a multi-million dollar National Institute of Health nationwide research project, Longitudinal Assessment of Bariatric Surgeries (LABS I & LABS II). This included patient recruitment, retention, data collection, data entry, data analysis, and specimen collection of over 600 research patients. The research was conducted in cooperation with ECU Department of Surgery with Dr. William Chapman and Dr. John Pender being the principal surgeons on the study. Dr. Walter Pories was the principal investigator as well as Dr. Lynis Dohm from ECU Department of Physiology. The study focused on the effects bariatric surgery has on its patients, emotionally, psychologically, physically, and medically. This was an intense study where only a few centers were selected to participate in throughout the nation. Also collaborated on two other research projects 1) A Johnson & Johnson study that focused specifically on the metabolic physiology of diabetic patients before and after bariatric surgery. 2) ECU Exercise Physiology Gait Analysis study focusing on the musculoskeletal degenerative effects of obesity. Some laboratory procedures performed included histological samples of human intestinal tissue and bariatric surgery on lab rats as well.
