The Sun Hydraulics Innovation team is responsible for the design and development of Sun's new products. While a part of this group I coordinated new design projects with the Innovation team Engineers, Created 3D models and drawings from 2D conceptual design sketches, Performed Tolerance Analysis, and facilitated DFMEA meetings. I was also the point of contact for our off-shore engineering team, coordinating projects between our groups.

I was responsible for Sun's line of solenoid operated switching directional valves including both poppet and spool type variants. This role required me to work closely with the manufacturing and engineering teams to identify and address issues that arose within the products lines.During this time I also worked closely with other design engineers to design, develop and release to market various load holding valves including the Series 1 Load Control valve, or "M" style valve, and the variable pilot LoadAdaptive counterbalance valve.

As a manifold designer at Sun I was responsible for interpreting customer's schematics and constraints and optimizing them into custom manifold packages. I was in direct contact with our distributors and their customers at all times during the design process to ensure the accuracy of the design.Shortly after joining the manifold group I was tasked with migrating our drawing process from a 2D Cad package to Pro-Engineer. In the process I learned the value of 3D cad over a 2D cad package!

I began my stay in the Lab working on service side. Here valves were returned to us for various reasons and it was our responsibility to thoroughly inspect and trouble shoot the failure mode to determine the root cause. Then we would determine the appropriate corrective action to ensure the probability of that specific failure happening again would be significantly reduced.While working in the R&D Lab I was tasked with assembling various iterations of prototype valves and performing performance, burst, and endurance tests on them. I worked closely with the engineers to trouble shoot and identify any issues that arose during the tests. I also helped maintain the test equipment in the Lab ranging from the test bays themselves to the pumps, motors, valves, flow meters, etc.

This is where I began my career at Sun. After two successful summer internships I decided to join the Sun family and began learning the product line by testing and repairing valves. After testing and repairing almost every product line Sun offered my role expanded from assembly and test support to entire shop floor support with regards to valve performance.I familiarized myself with our various machining processes and capabilities. I also learned how to operated various pieces high precision measuring equipment including a surface analyzer and roundness measuring instrument.
