Evangelized and drove federation and implementation of various next-gen Enterprise Management and Service Health systems to support Microsoft’s Mobile/Windows Phone line of business. Drove development and integration of system, application, and business performance metrics from disparate systems and data sources (including Microsoft System Center, Gomez, Vantage, SQL Server) into a unified event correlation, dashboard, and alert system, and integrated this into Microsoft Operations’ ticketing system.Developed various performance and capacity models to support Microsoft’s PMX and Windows Phone 7 offerings, as well as performance management requirements for the forthcoming Azure/cloud based platforms. Architected, implemented, and integrated agentless performance monitoring for PMX and Windows Phone 7 services.Drove design and delivery of the Windows Phone Service Center – dedicated to supporting Windows Phone development, test/QA, and production endeavors.

Seeded a distributed, cross matrix Performance Engineering team dedicated to Websense’s hosted web and email filtering business – establishing a first-ever practice within the company’s Software as a Service development lifecycle.Established the Websense Hosted Performance Lab in San Jose – a first-ever, holistic representation of a Websense production datacenter cluster, establishing tools, management, and processes for incorporation into the SDLC.Led Performance Engineering efforts through the development and launch of the company’s hybrid on-premise/hosted web filtering offering, identifying bottlenecks and developing capacity models to support the launch.

Led the decentralization efforts to separate eBay’s “MarketPlace” and PayPal Capacity Planning, Performance Engineering and Operations’ business reporting systems and practices into operationally independent, business unit specific teams. Post-decentralization, grew a talented and motivated team dedicated to PayPal Operations’ Performance Engineering and Capacity Management needs – supporting Paypal Operations’ and Product Development infrastructure and PDLC projects.Leveraged eBay MarketPlace best practices and tools, and developed/implemented new tools/systems to support a world class Performance Engineering, Capacity Management, and Business Facing Reporting practice in a high growth, fast-paced PDLC environment.Led the development effort of numerous performance/capacity models to accurately forecast data center, power, server systems, and storage demands, and to predict database ‘TTL’s’, to drive capacity adds, and support infrastructure and application architecture decisions and timings.

Grew a best in class team of capacity planning, performance engineering/modeling, and support staff to develop and support all site capacity planning and performance engineering endeavors (systems, databases, storage, data center, power, etc) for PayPal and the “World’s On-Line MarketPlace”.Led the technology refresh and implementation of a scalable and comprehensive capacity management (SAS ITRM), performance modeling (Hyperformix), performance data warehousing systems (SAS/IBM), and reporting systems (SAS/Crystal) as well as the process, practice, and training implementations to support eBay/PayPal Operations’ through tremendous infrastructure demand growth and through the deployment of multiple datacenters.Led the development and implementation of various performance/capacity models, reporting, and other systems to capacity manage and forecast site infrastructure demand through organic growth, product/features releases, and promotion activities, and to identify numerous cost saving opportunities.

Grew a highly motivated server/software engineering team, responsible for the engineering, development, deployment, and management effort of the world’s largest distributed network of broadband caching, customer facing DNS, device provisioning, and data mining servers.Led the tech refresh evaluation, engineering, training and transition initiative of servers and services from Solaris and IRIX to x86/Linux based systems; evaluating and/or implementing hardware solutions from IBM, Dell, HP, and SGI.Developed tools, monitoring, software packaging and distribution systems and procedures, homogenizing, streamlining and automating the edge server infrastructure, reducing operations’ time spent maintaining these systems (2/3 of the @Home server network) to less than 10% of the entire server operations outlay.Responsible for the HTTP and streaming media caching applications (Inktomi Traffic Server and MediaIXT), platform development, engineering interfaces with IBM, Inktomi and other partners, and the development, implementation, and transition effort to a distributed, configurable log collection and analysis system.
