I have over twenty years of education experience in both urban and suburban school districts. I am passionate about diversifying schools’ curriculum so that all students feel included and empowered. I have used diverse literature to help foster the love of reading diverse text, build empathy, develop critical thinking skills, and to promote courageous writing. I am the founder of Educational Consulting Team, a company committed to helping schools' curriculum reflect the diversity of our world. My clients include The College Board, A+ School, and Mass Insights. The primary focus is to work with schools districts and schools to ensure that all students can see themselves in the main curriculum in every school across this country. I also focus on helping associations that work with school leaders and teachers to be more creative in ways to be more inclusive of educators of color through:Professional DevelopmentsCurriculum DevelopmentPresentations I have spoken on diversity at National Conferences, and I have also enjoyed being a guest lecturer where I had the opportunity to inspire other educators to do courageous work. I have explored the ideas of preparing “all” students for advance classes, getting away from the single story as stated by the famed author Chimamanda Adichie, writing courageously, and using literature to build empathy. My thoughts on using literature to build empathy were quoted in the International Literacy Association Magazine.
